Chicago - National Able Network’s Veterans Program is seeking candidates for a Veterans Program Liaison position, to be filled in mid-January. The Veterans’ Program Liaison is responsible to oversee all services rendered to Veterans Program clients, including initial intake and assessment of needs, referrals to all supportive services available to veterans, enrollment in vocational training programs, assistance with job search, and ongoing follow up and retention efforts. In addition, the Veterans Program Liaison will coordinate with outside agencies to ensure consistent flow of services and benefits, and will maintain accurate, timely, and complete documentation for all clients. This position will be located in downtown Chicago at ourLake Street office. QUALIFICATIONS:
• Previous military or reserve experience strongly preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in human services field.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in a people-oriented role with heavy administrative demands, such as social services, education, counseling, job development, career advising, or related.
• Must be able to manage multiple projects and produce results in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong computer skills in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and presentation to a range of diverse audiences.
• Creative self-starter who will take initiative and work independently to achieve results, but can also collaborate and contribute positively to team efforts.

Chicago - Open Position: Program Manager, Urban Weatherization Initiative
North Lawndale Employment Networkis seeking qualified applicants for the position of Program Manager, with primary responsibility for implementing NLEN's Urban Weatherization Initiative Program. This program will train participants in skills necessary to enter and prosper in the vocational field of home and business weatherization. Competitive candidates will possess, at minimum, a bachelor's degree in business or related workforce-development discipline and will have a minimum of 3 years experience as a project manager in workforce-development, construction, or similar relevant work experience.
Position Responsibilities Recruiting, assessing, screening, and enrolling qualified program applicants in sufficient numbers to satisfy contractual requirements. Establishing and maintaining productive, mutually beneficial relationships with contracting program partners who will be responsible for delivering direct training and support services to participants, ensuring that their contributions to the project are effective, responsive, and sufficient to the attainment of all program goals. Coordinating activities and strategies with contractual partners and NLEN team members for the maximum effectiveness and efficiency of service delivery. Producing and submitting all necessary process and outcome reports required by the project funding agency, and for adhering to all performance requirements as stipulated in the program contract. Documenting the process and outcomes of all training, support, and employment acquisition activities delivered on behalf of NLEN participants individually and in aggregate for research, evaluation, quality control, and continuous improvement purposes.

OPM to restructure federal internship program

The Office of Personnel Management plans to launch the federal government's new internship program by May, OPM director John Berry said Tuesday.
In a speech to the NASA Education Stakeholder's Summit , Berry gave additional details on the Student Pathways Initiative, created by President Obama in December 2010 based on findings from OPM.
The initiative will consolidate several federal internship programs into three pathways, replacing the Federal Career Intern Program, which was ordered to be shut down in March for violating federal veterans preference laws.
"We have a remarkable generation of young people coming of age. They're smart, they're connected, and they are looking for ways to give back to their communities and their nation," Berry said. "We want students to choose the federal workforce as their venue to pursue that urge to public service."
The initiative's three options are an internship program for current students, a new Recent Graduates Program and the Presidential Management Fellows Program for graduate students. OPM confirmed that all three pathways will be launched simultaneously, and that the organization aims to be ready in time for the Recent Graduates pathway to accommodate students graduating in May 2012.
Berry added that the Pathways program will be open to students at universities, community colleges and trade schools, and OPM plans to look beyond applicants in the science and technology fields to target accountants, linguists and policy specialists.
OPM also has realigned the application process for the Presidential Management Fellows Program to correspond with the academic year and removed a requirement that candidates have to be nominated by their schools. These changes will go into effect during the next academic year, according to Berry .

Storycatchers Theatre prepares young people to make positive life choices through the process of writing, producing and performing original musical theatre inspired by personal stories.
Storycatchers Theatre uses creative writing and the performing arts to serve community and incarcerated youth (14 - 21) in Chicago and near suburbs. Under the guidance of Storycatchers teaching artists, youth create original work reflecting their life experiences. The writing and performance skills workshops for each program culminate in an original one-act musical.
Skill / Knowledge / Experience Requirements:
Desired applicants will have a solid background as:
Director
Stage Manager
Writer and/or musician/composer
And the ability to do or learn two or more of the following:
Sing
Act
Dance
Play a Musical Instrument
Write plays
Write lyrics
Masters degree or equivalent experience
3-5 years experience in positive youth development, arts preferred
Interested in theater as an instrument for social & personal change
Experience working with marginalized adolescent populations
Experience with incarcerated or highly traumatized youth

Drivers license and access to dependable vehicle

DUTIES:
The Program Manager (PM) /Teaching Artist will plan, coordinate and execute program activities.
In consultation with the Artistic Director, the PM will:
Establish and execute program schedule including:
Program sessions
Program staff meetings
Teaching Artist and volunteer training
Program presentations (staged readings, performances)
Production work
Evaluation (participant and program staff)
Create curriculum for each program session
Serve as Teaching Artist for program sessions
Supervise and guide other Teaching Artists and volunteer mentors
Head script and story writing in collaboration with Artistic Director and program staff
Model collaboration, problem solving and time management skills
Coordinate program planning and information exchange partner staff
Maintain working and amicable relationship with partner staff
Maintain program budget
Complete Daily Activity Report for every program session, with-in 12 hours of session completion.
Provide all information for event invitations and presentation programs
Coordinate / supervise participant, partner and parent evaluations
Serve as primary contact with participant families
Coordinate event invitations
Coordinate family reservations
Coordinate transportation for families, when needed
Distribute and collect completed release forms
Compile the Final Report for the program including

BID/JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
These positions are open to the general public and to all current city employees covered under the terms of the City's collective bargaining agreement with I.B.E.W., INTERNATIONAL BROTHERHOOD OF ELECTRICAL WORKERS, LOCAL 9 - AFL/CIO
Office of Emergency Management & Communications
Number of vacancies: 9
DUTIES: Receives emergency 9-1-1 calls from persons reporting fires or requesting emergency medical services; operates a two-screen computer console connected to a computer-aided dispatch system and telephone equipment to receive and process 9-1-1 calls; obtains pertinent information from callers to determine location and extent of fire including conditions at the incident scene and if hazardous materials are present; obtains pertinent information from callers requesting emergency medical services and uses a triage computer screen to determine whether requests are of an emergency and life threatening nature; makes determination based on information provided and informs callers whether an ambulance will be dispatched; assigns priority codes and provides pre-arrival instructions to callers awaiting emergency medical services; relays emergency request information to Fire Communications Operators II for dispatching; records reported interruptions to water, telephone and utility services, and traffic flow problems and relays information to dispatch personnel.

HOURS: 7:00 am To 3:00 pm, 3:00 pm To 11:00 pm, 11:00 pm To 7:00am SHIFTS: Various (1st, 2nd & 3rd Watch) DAYS OFF: Rotating Days Off
THIS POSITION IS IN THE CAREER SERVICE.
QualificationsHigh school graduation or GED certification. Current certification as an Emergency Medical Technician/B (EMT/B). As of the date of application, candidates must have reached their twentieth birthday. Must be able to type a minimum of twenty-five words per minute
NOTE: APPLICANTS ELIGIBLE TO BE TESTED must show proof of a valid Illinois EMT-B license and validation that their continuing education hours are up to date, AT THE TIME OF TESTING.
NOTE: Persons offered employment must pass all pre-employment exams prior to appointment including a drug screen and a background investigation.
SELECTION REQUIREMENTS This position requires applicants to complete a written test / skills assessment with a proposed minimum score of 70%. The cut score is subject to change based on standard statistical analysis of test results. Test results will be sent out by the Department of Human Resources after test results have been analyzed and compiled. Bidders who receive a passing score on the test will be hired in seniority order according to the collective bargaining agreement. External applicants who receive a passing score on the test will be hired in lottery/random order.
